Know the windows.
Plan the work before them.
These dates do different jobs. A typical window helps you plan; only the applicable official call sets your deadline.
9–12 months before entry
Compare programmes, language evidence and recognition requirements; prepare the financial plan.
Spring funding planning
Several 2026 state and university calls closed in April or May. Use them to prepare, not as confirmed 2027 deadlines.
University admission planning
The national study portal says many autumn deadlines are in June, but actual dates vary by university and applicant category.
2026 state master’s call
The published round closed on 20 April 2026. Future availability and nationality lists must be checked afresh.
After acceptance
Follow the university’s instructions on tuition, supporting letters and the current migration route before travel.

The budget.
The documents. The details.
Tuition
Take the total programme charge and payment timing from the university. A scholarship percentage may apply to tuition only.
Financial evidence
Ask the university and Migration Department which evidence and current amounts your route requires. Do not rely on an outdated universal visa checklist.
First-month costs
Budget for travel, housing deposit, insurance, migration charges, local transport and the period before any grant is paid.
Your starting document checklist
Use this to organise the file; the provider’s current requirements determine the final list.
- Passport and consistent legal name across your records.
- Degree or school-leaving certificate, full transcripts and grading scale; provisional evidence only where accepted.
- Programme-specific proof of language ability, including any approved waiver in writing.
- Academic CV, tailored statement and references where requested.
- Funding evidence and a personal budget kept separate from the admission documents.
- Qualification-recognition evidence requested by the receiving university or relevant recognition body.
- Portfolio, entrance assessment or motivation interview preparation where the programme requires it.

One clear step
at a time.
Use the checklist to keep your own place. These are preparation milestones, not a substitute for official approval.
Start with programme recognition and purpose
Define your degree level and subject before comparing tuition. Read the full programme page: entry qualification, language, academic content, duration and the qualification awarded. For regulated professions, ask the relevant professional body how the degree relates to your intended practice location.
Build a small shortlist with an official contact for each programme. Record uncertainties such as prerequisite subjects, an entrance test or a portfolio. An admission agent’s assurance is not a substitute for written university guidance. Your first goal is a course that fits your background and ambitions, not merely the cheapest advertised place.

Check qualifications and language requirements
Request the university’s checklist for applicants educated in your country. Confirm whether recognition is handled within admission or whether a separate assessment is needed. The national study portal warns that recognition can take a month or longer, so avoid leaving it to the end.
Check the accepted English or Lithuanian evidence and whether an interview is part of selection. A medium-of-instruction letter is useful only when the institution explicitly accepts it. Keep provisional and final certificates clearly labelled; do not present an unfinished degree as already completed. Record any condition that must be met before enrolment.

Match nationality to the right scholarship
Open the annual state call and look for the actual citizenship or Lithuanian-origin conditions. A country appearing in the website’s destination filter describes where you would study, not who is eligible to receive a grant. For example, the 2026 state master’s call used a specific eligible-nationality list.
Next, check university awards separately. A full tuition waiver does not pay for accommodation or daily living. A short-term scholarship is not a full-degree award. Note the number of years covered, whether the scholarship is competitive and any grade or academic-debt conditions for renewal. Keep the official call with your application records.

Create the university-specific application file
Use the application portal linked by the university itself. Assemble the passport, certificates, transcript, accepted language evidence and any programme-specific CV, references or motivation text. Preserve the original documents alongside translations.
For arts programmes, follow the actual portfolio requirements rather than uploading a general collection of work. For technical or research courses, make prerequisite subjects and relevant projects easy to identify. Ask referees about the required method of submission. A well-organised folder should tell you which document is complete, which needs an official replacement and which is waiting on someone else.

Apply early and prepare for selection
Submit before the published deadline for your applicant category, especially when you will need time for recognition and migration procedures. Follow the fee instructions shown by the official portal and save the receipt and submitted version.
Prepare for any motivation or subject interview using the actual course and your own experience. Explain why the degree is a logical next step, how you have prepared and how it will be funded. Check the portal after submission for missing documents or additional tasks. A submitted form without required evidence may still be incomplete.

Compare the offer with the funding decision
Read academic conditions, the tuition-payment schedule and any scholarship letter together. Ask what happens if recognition or immigration processing is delayed. Record the university’s deposit and refund conditions before paying.
Build three columns in your budget: confirmed scholarship support, your available funds and costs still unfunded. Do not count an award merely because you applied for it. If a tuition discount requires enrolment or payment first, plan the cash flow rather than assuming the discount arrives as cash. Keep written clarification of any condition that affects affordability.

Verify the current migration route
Ask the university’s international office which Migration Department process applies to your nationality, residence and course. Use the official MIGRIS student route for the current requirements and document submission instructions. The migration portal is dynamic, so a short general study website cannot replace its current checklist.
Do not assume every student must use the same combination of visa and residence documents. Check where you can submit, what the university must provide, when identity checks are required and how much time to allow. This guide deliberately does not promise a fixed processing time or a universally valid financial threshold.

Arrange housing and prepare for travel
Request university accommodation information and compare it with verified private options. Check the deposit, contract dates and cancellation conditions. Keep enough funds for the first weeks even when a scholarship has been awarded.
Confirm whether you must present originals on arrival and keep them accessible while travelling. Save the university’s arrival contact, address and enrolment instructions offline. Coordinate travel around your permission to enter and the university’s latest arrival date; do not assume late arrival is acceptable without written approval.

Complete enrolment and monitor renewal conditions
Use the international office’s checklist to complete registration, residence-related tasks and course enrolment. Check whether the scholarship is activated automatically or requires a further confirmation after arrival.
Keep grade, attendance, academic-debt and progression conditions in your calendar. Where an award is conditional on maintaining performance or enrolment status, contact the scholarship office before changing programmes or interrupting study. Review next year’s tuition and housing costs early. The aim is not only to obtain an offer, but to keep the entire study plan financially and academically sustainable.

Questions worth asking.
Are Lithuanian state master’s scholarships open to every nationality?
No. The annual call defines eligible citizenship and Lithuanian-origin categories. Always check the new call rather than reusing an old list.
Does a full tuition waiver cover living costs?
Not unless the award explicitly says so. Tuition-only support and a stipend are different funding components.
Can I follow one deadline for every Lithuanian university?
No. The university, programme, funding call and applicant category determine the relevant deadlines.
